Day 1 - Introduction to Assistive Technology

Today we watched a video about a 26 year old with autism who is a Junior at college, liveBut lives by herself, and loves going to horse races! She was diagnosed when she was 4, and not given a very bright future by her doctors at that time. When she was 13, she was given a handheld keyboard, and began communicating and showing all the people around her how smart she was.

The message that I got from this video is that we, as eductors, have to believe in the potential of our students. Even when it appears that they are not learning anything, some part of the conciousness is taking the material in. Some days are better than others, but teachers do play a vital role in the lifes of our students. We just have to believe in the students, and we have to believe in ourselves.
