Today, we looked at Social Stories. These are stories about a specific event, such as how to walk down the hall. They are mainly used for students with austim, so that they can learn about appropiate social actions, but could be used with other needs, as well. Here is an example of a video social story.
There is only 1 slide that I think the text should be changed. The slide says 'I will TRY to say please share.' I think that the word 'try' should be taken out because with this word inserted it appears to give the child some wiggle room.
I've seen social stories in book format before, but I have never seen video social stories before. That's what our group assignment was: to make a social story using Window Movie Maker and an IPod Touch. It was fun to tape, but boy, what a pain to figure out how to edit!
The hardest part of the editing was trying to figure out how to cut our movie up into clips. We just recorded it as one clip, instead of separate clips. But at least we know how to cut one long clip into smaller clips now! The easiest part of the process of the voice over. It took us a while, but we finally figured it all out!
And we even had time to script our assignment for tomorrow at the end of class!
