Today we studied the various frameworks that trained professionals use in order to assess need for AT. They are:
HATT (Human Activity Assistive Technology) framework - There are 3 basic activity categories: school/work, self care, and play/leisure. When you use this framework, you have to break down the particular activity that the person needs AT for into its components to discover the right device for that particular activity.
SETT (Student, Environment, Tools, Task) framework - This framework has the team ask questions about each of the SETT categories in order to determine AT requirements.
WIAT (Wisconsin Assistive Technology Intiative) framework - This framework is the most detailed of all the frameworks. The questionnaire covers all aspects of schooling and life activities.
MPTT (Milieu, Personality, Technology, Time) framework - This framework is like the SETT framework (Milieu=environment)
I believe that all the frameworks above are similar, and can all be used in schools. I also believe that the HATT can also be used outside of the school, in the workplace. This is the only one that appears to be general enough to be of use outside the student's realm.
