Today, we got our case studies for assignment 1. It's a group assignment. Our large group has Charlie, a grade 6 boy who is fully integrated into the classroom. He is non-verbal, so he needs to use Proloquo2go everywhere: home, school, social settings, and the hospital (his health is poor).
The large group worked quickly and efficiently, figuring out the Annual and Specific Goals for the IPP, the settings of the appearance of Proloquo2go, and the small groups, who were to take 1 setting and complete the folders. Also, as a large group we decided how many layers to go down for each setting. Then we broke into our small groups to work.
My small group consisted of Jill, Shelly, and myself, and we had the hospital setting. The first thing we did was to decide upon subcategories: we decided on Chit Chat (social things that he would say to people in the waiting room), doctor/nurse (phrases he would speak to the doctor or nurse that was seeing him), reception (things he would say at the reception area) and medical terms (phrases that are general to the medical setting). Then, we quickly assigned tasks: Jill's was programming, Shelly was writing the notes, and mine was to brainstorm phrases that Charlie would need to use.
The was the first group that I had worked in that worked SO WELL TOGETHER! We really complimented one another, and bounced ideas around. We worked so efficiently that by the end of class, we had almost completed our part of the assignment! Then Barb announced that we would get another 30-45 minutes tomorow to finish up! I believe that we will need only another 15 minutes!
Here is a short video that I found of a boy using Proloquo2go on the first day.
